Grammatography FTW

  • Underware

Isn’t it strange that despite we’re living in a completely different world than in the Renaissance, we’re still using the same methods to express ourselves? Why are we using the centuries old technique of movable type in a digital environment which offers so much more possibilities? Although the invention of typography contributed to a progress of society, will anything come after typography? If so, how will that change society? Now that fonts became variable, why is a letter still a letter? And should that letter always remain the same letter?

Since the introduction of variable fonts, it’s no longer necessary that digital letters are prefabricated, as letters can respond to readers. Underware calls those kind of letters grammatos, which could offer a new way of writing. Writing with letters. Say hello to grammatography.
