How to write Thai

  • Sirin Gunkloy

Thai letterforms have held a long, deeply-rooted history. The Thai letters are well-known for their distinctive small rounded loops like no other letterforms. The upcoming session includes a variety of elements ranging from brief lectures, interactive discussions to hand-on trials, all of which will familiarize the participants with the Thai letterforms regardless of their limited knowledge of the language. Furthermore, the session will be enriched with the interesting background of the language as well as its current context. At the same time, attendants will get to know about linguistic and cultural assimilations in Thai society. For instance, they will be exposed to various examples of shop signs found on famous local streets. Last but not least, they will be learning about how to deal with continuous strokes step by step. Certain Thai words and simple phrases often used in everyday conversations will also be addressed. A fruitful one-hour of an introduction to Thai typography is awaiting!
