Teaching typography from Jaén

Two years ago I could finally establish myself as a specialized typography teacher in a city in northern Andalusia: Jaén. Until then I had traveled and lived in several important places, but I never imagined that I would end up in this small Andalusian city far from almost everything. Jaén is a traditional, simple town, with no typographic culture at all. However, it is a friendly and close city, I think with a lot of potential and future. That is why I try to transmit to my students the same passion that I have for typography. My strategy for that is to conect typography and identity. I am especially interested in the power of typography (and graphic design in general) to enhance the local. So, since I came here, I have been carrying out typographic projects that take place in this city, or deal with it. Nothing inspires me more than the identity roots of the place where I live, and also I firmly believe that it is in small communities where the most and best typographic culture can be developed, thanks to the opportunity offered by new technologies; fortunately, the internet and social media have greatly democratized this sector, that was previously limited to the largest cities. What I like most about typography is that, in general, its protagonists are kind, nice, honest guys, and they easily give their knowledge to whoever requests it. In fact, that is why I am writing this: thank you Typweknd for taking typography to all corners of the world, including Jaén.
